Dr. Hratch Semerjian

Hratch G. Semerjian is the Acting Director of the National Institute
of Standards and Technology (NIST), the nation's R&D laboratory for
measurement technology and standards and the only Federal laboratory with
the primary mission of supporting industry and commerce. After completing
his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering at Brown University (1972), Dr.
Semerjian was a post doctoral fellow at the University of Toronto in the
Chemistry Dept. In 1973, he joined the research staff of Pratt & Whitney
Aircraft Division of the United Technologies Corp. In 1977, he joined the
research staff of NBS (National Bureau of Standards - later renamed NIST).
In 1992, he became the Director of the NIST Chemical Science and Technology
Laboratory, and assumed the position of NIST Deputy Director in 2003. He has
received numerous professional awards, including the Department of Commerce
Silver and Gold Medals, and was elected to the National Academy of
Engineering in 2000.
