Robert D. Hamlin
State Director

Robert D. Hamlin (Bob) was appointed the State Director of the Rhode Island Small Business Development Center in August 1999. The RISBDC is one of 63 Small Business Development Centers across the country and territories of the United States comprising over 1200 small business technical assistance locations. The RISBDC receives funding from the United States Small Business Administration, the State of Rhode Island, and Bryant College. Fleet Bank also supports minority technical assistance and training.

Prior to his appointment as State Director, Bob served as Assistant Director of the Rhode Island Export Assistance Center, at Bryant College. During his tenure, he was the program manager of the Country and Industry Program. This economic development initiative provided international training and consulting services to over 500 Rhode Island businesses. He was also actively engaged in several videoconferencing initiatives allowing businesses to engage in long distance meetings by utilizing the Interactive Telecommunication Network he helped construct.

In 1994, Bob started The Hamlin Group, a meeting and special events company. He has assisted ESPN in the development of the Extreme Games, X-Games, and assisted NBC Sports coordinate specific aspects of the Gravity Games. He was actively involved in the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce and served as an ambassador since joining the Chamber. Other clients included: telecommunications companies, colleges and universities, and the Rhode Island Small Business Development Center. 

Prior to starting his own business, Bob was Credit Manager of SuperValue Foods, Cranston Rhode Island, where he managed a receivable portfolio of approximately 12,000,000 per week.
